The daughter of Dennis Alan Taylor, a former banking executive and Jennifer Marina Joy, a psychologist is half English in half Spanish. Her father is an Argentinean who has Scottish and English origins is also her mother. Her mother is of Spanish and English ancestral roots. Taylor-Joy's siblings are four of her father's ex-married partners. The family she grew up with was within Buenos Aires from the time she was just six until they relocated from Argentina to Victoria, London. According to Taylor-Joy the relocated family was traumatized and was unable to master English to the hope of moving back to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school following the switched from Northlands. Then, she was enrolled at Queen's Gate School to study dance and perform in the school's productions. When she was 16 she decided to leave school to follow a full-time career path in acting. Taylor-Joy has always known that her dream was to become an actor.
